High Tech Outdoor Camping Equipment - Are They Worth it?

Outdoor camping has always been an activity associated with Mother Nature. The idea is to shut down city life for a certain period of time and just go out on a camping site to commune with the environment. For most campers, this is an opportunity to temporarily strip down their lives into its bare essentials - having nothing but food, clothing, and God's creation all around them.

However, with the amazing advances in technology nowadays, there are also newly developed high tech camping equipment available. Using them on your next outdoor camping trip would be a perfect marriage of Nature and Technology. But the question is, are these high tech camping gear worth using or do they just add to the bulk of your baggage?

Solar Charged Lanterns. While many nature "purists" would rather use a real lantern with a real flame in any outdoor situation, there are some who now prefer a solar charged lantern. Sure it doesn't even come close to the feel of a genuine lantern (which gives a sort of tribal atmosphere), but the effect and function is the same. A typical solar charged lantern can emit 80 lumens light for a space of 15 square meters. This is more than enough to lighten an entire medium sized camp.

Solar Panel Chargers. Now that the world is filled with mobile gadgets like iPhones, tablet PCs, Mac devices, and Samsung notebooks, many campers find it impossible to survive an outdoor camping trip without access to their gadgets. For these types of campers (which comprises majority of people), a solar panel charger would be most suitable. High end solar panel chargers can usually charge laptops or notebooks below 40 watts. Smart phones, GPS devices and other handheld gadgets can also be charged with solar panel equipment.

Underwear With Insect Protection Technology. Technology, in the general sense of the word, is not limited to devices which use electronics in order to work. It can also be applied to clothing, much specifically underwear clothing. There are underwear brands today that use "insect shield" technology to ward off insects from the intimate area, as well as regulate different levels of surface temperature. These kinds of under clothing can be extremely useful in outdoor camping areas where there might be a danger of being exposed to diseases caused by insect bites.

High tech camping gear is not entirely troublesome and bulky all the time. In the situations mentioned above, they can be very useful and therefore should be added to the checklist of an active camper.
